Icoms 706 MKIIG is widely beloved as a ham radio workhorse. Durable, reliable, with good sound quality and able to take a long duty cycle, these radios are still admired for portable, mobile, or base station deployment. This particular unit is no exception to the Icom 706 MKIIG reputation. I powered it up recently and it both transmitted and received with aplomb. Radio checks on HF suggest the microphone has a good clear readability. However, this radio has mostly seen service doing data text modes, so the microphone has not been used much. I believe Im the 2nd owner, and in both cases it has been used exclusively as a base station, not mobile. Its only transport has been for sale and for the occasional field day or camping trip. In those times, it was connected to its own well controlled solar powered battery, not a generator. The radio has never been run at full 100w, as there was no need, usually 20w for digital modes, so the finals ought to be in good shape. I did open it a few years ago to look at the boards. The electronic components look fine, and nicely clean. The only cosmetic issue I can see is a small hairline scratch on the underside. Other than that, it is near mint. There is no paper copy of the manual, but these are free as PDF on the Icom website. It still has its own original box and an unused mounting bracket. This Icom 706 MKIIG has been a dear member of my shack family. But its time to let him go as QRP portables are my main radio interest these days. As far as I can tell, there is nothing operationally wrong with this radio. I do hope it goes to a good home who will love it as I have. Im not a corporate shop, just a solo ham and tinkerer.
