This is an ICOM model # IC-251A VHF 2-Meter band, multi-mode (SSB/CW/FM) Ham Radio Transceiver, from a local Amateur Radio operator’s Estate. It came as only the Transceiver as shown in the pictures, with no microphone or manual. Normally, the IC-251A provides an internal AC Power Supply, but in this one, it’s either missing or not functioning. One of the top covers is missing one of the push-lock pins that hold the adjustments cover plate in place, which you can see in the picture of the top cover – it looks like the missing plastic pin is similar to what is used in many automotive interiors to hold trim pieces in place. It came with a short DC power cord with Anderson Power Pole connectors, as shown in the pictures, but no microphone, mobile mounting bracket nor any of the other standard or optional accessories. It does have the tilt bail underneath, which allows the radio to be tilted upward for easier viewing, when placed on a table top, etc. Like most ICOM products, the Instruction manual is probably available for on-line download, if you’d like more information. This is a 144.0 – 148.0 MHz 10-watt, 2-Meter Transceiver, with digital frequency readout. I connected the radio to a +13.8V DC Power Supply, and at a local 2-Way Radio Repair Shop, connected it to an IFR model 1200A Service Monitor see the testing setup in the last picture. The Receiver had excellent sensitivity on FM and SSB modes. I borrowed a microphone from another ICOM radio, but when I keyed the PTT, I saw no power output on any modes. The receiver had great audio output, the squelch worked properly, and the digital frequency display was bright and clear. Due to previous problems with “parts swappers” yes, that’s actually happened to me! The new owner will have to supply the radio with an external 13.8V DC power supply, microphone, CW key and an appropriate antenna. Here’s some IC-251A Specifications from the Rigpix page.
