Heathkit HW-101 SSB/CW transceiver covering 80 through 10 meters. Powered it on using a Heathkit HP-23B and tested on both receive and transmit. The HP-23B is not included. The 11 pin power cable on the back is included. The manual has the original owner’s call sign (WD0CFH) written on the cover and the assembly check marks are filled in throughout. Great resource if you plan to restore or align this unit. All tubes are in place inside. Internals are clean and with no signs of burned components or sloppy modifications. A Heathkit Electronic Center service sticker on the rear panel dated 8-2-77 shows this unit was professionally maintained during its working life. Rear panel has an SO-239 antenna jack, CW key jack, 8 ohm speaker jack, ALC, spare, and ground terminals. Requires an external power supply such as the Heathkit HP-23A, HP-23B, HP-23C, or equivalent.

That means it does not operate on the Citizen’s Band (CB). However, all 10 meter radios are built with easy conversion in mind. The single largest market for 10 meter radios? Keys and title to a 2026 Corvette are not included (sorry). Is this a CB? No, it is a 10 meter radio. The Citizens Band is limited to 4 watts and operates on the 11 meter band per FCC regulations. If you see “10 meter radio” on a listing, it is not a CB. Is it peaked and tuned? All ham radios are “peaked” by the qualified engineers who design them. A radio hack without an engineering degree and radio design experience cannot improve on this, though they can alter the radio for higher output wattage. But this overdrives the transistors, causing distortion and overheating. Not a good thing to do. There is no additional tuning required. Why the ALL CAPS for mosfet? Because MOSFET is an acronym, and in English acronyms are spelled in all caps. MOSFET stands for Metal Oxide Field Effect Transistor. This is not a new technology. It has evolved and improved over time. Some radio buyers obsess over what kind of transistor is used in the finals, based on something they read or their buddy told them. MOSFET isn’t the only way to achieve the design engineers’ goals, but this technology is often chosen. We get this question quite a bit. It is illegal to sell a converted radio, and it also violates the TOS of any online marketplace to do so. If the listing says 10 meter and it says NEW condition, then it has not been converted.
