This KWM-2A is in pretty nice cosmetic condition. The cabinet has been repainted and is missing the lock-screws on the lid, but aside from that the radio looks terrific and is very clean. It was serviced by Collins Rebuilders (K2LRC) in 2014. Unfortunately, it is going to need some more work. We powered it up and my tech noticed smoke coming from near the power connector. This KWM-2A, serial number 13511, is in amazing cosmetic condition. It’s literally just about perfect as I see no scuffs or scratches anywhere on it. The cabinet’s paint is original. Inside, it’s very clean and I see no signs of modification or tinkering of any kind. All capacitors under the chassis are original. All of the stock crystals are present. The unit does not have the plug-in relays or teflon wire. It operates well, but please keep in mind that this is a 50-60 year old piece of equipment and we have not done any sort of restoration. With that in mind, there’s always a chance there are some small quirks that need to be addressed… That’s just the nature of vintage electronics. It’s always a good idea to replace capacitors, check and replace tubes as needed, spray all controls with contact cleaner, perform a calibration/alignment to ensure it’s right on frequency, and address any other issues that we may have missed. This winged-emblem KWM-2A (SN unknown) is in fair cosmetic condition. The cabinet and trim ring have been crudely repainted. Unfortunately, the serial number tag has fallen off, but this is probably an earlier unit as I don’t see any plug-in relays or teflon wire. The stock crystals all appear to be present. I apologize for not taking it out of the cabinet for photographs, but I’ve peeked through and I do some replaced capacitors. No other accessories are included with the sale. This is part of a large collection we recently acquired, which consisted of mostly Collins and Drake gear. The gentleman had acquired the equipment over the past decade with the hope of one day restoring it and creating a vintage contest station. We picked the equipment up from a climate-controlled storage where everything was individually boxed and had sitting for years. On top of that, we have no idea when they were last used before he had acquired it. We’ll guarantee it to not be DOA, but it will certainly need some level of service to bring it back to factory spec. This may include (but limited to): replacement of electrical components (capacitors, resistors, tubes, etc), cleaning of controls, alignment, and so forth. I don’t think you have ever seen one like it, it is a Collins KWM-2A, round emblem and late serial number 39720, NEW in its original box and inside its plastic sealed bag, never opened or put into operation. This KWM-2A has been stored in a temperature controlled and humidity free place for at least the last 20 years. Inside its cardboard box filled with injected foam inside its original blue plastic packaging.
