The Citizens Band is limited to 4 watts and operates on the 11 meter band per FCC regulations. If you see “10 meter radio” on a listing, it is not a CB. Is it peaked and tuned? All ham radios are “peaked” by the qualified engineers who design them. A radio hack without an engineering degree and radio design experience cannot improve on this, though they can alter the radio for higher output wattage. But this overdrives the transistors, causing distortion and overheating. Not a good thing to do. There is no additional tuning required. Why the ALL CAPS for mosfet? Because MOSFET is an acronym, and in English acronyms are spelled in all caps. MOSFET stands for Metal Oxide Field Effect Transistor. This is not a new technology. It has evolved and improved over time. Some radio buyers obsess over what kind of transistor is used in the finals, based on something they read or their buddy told them. MOSFET isn’t the only way to achieve the design engineers’ goals, but this technology is often chosen. We get this question quite a bit. It is illegal to sell a converted radio, and it also violates the TOS of any online marketplace to do so. If the listing says 10 meter and it says NEW condition, then it has not been converted. This Drake TR7 (serial number 3515) is in really good condition. There’s one bent corner (see pictures), but aside from that it looks great with minimal wear and a nice display. It’s putting out about 140W watts, although the RX seems a little weak. It has three filters installed, as well as the optional noise blanker and auxiliary module. As with any piece of equipment this old, it would benefit from being “gone through” by a qualified technician to ensure peak performance and reliability. Lastly, please note that a PS7 power supply is not included in the sale. The bottom line is this… You’ll receive your item on time and in perfect condition regardless of how big, heavy, or delicate your item may be! Drake TR4-C w/ Shure 444 Mic and rebuilt (Harbach) AC4 Power Supply.. Very nice example of this classic Transceiver with what many agree is the best Mic to use with it: Shure 444 (note correct right angle plug installed). Chassis is very clean with small amount of corrosion or staining next to Noise Blanker. Cabinet has fresh refinish. No smoke or pet smells. Also installed is the hard to find Noise Blanker. All controls operate freely and receiver sensitivity / transmitter power is very good on all bands (using Drake recommended Sylvania finals). Note slow speed fan on PA cage as the TR4-C tends to run warm with 3 PA Tubes. At 50 years old, it can fail at any time. Also be aware that lethal voltages exist inside, therefore only experienced technicians should remove cabinet to adjust or repair. Items will be double boxed to insure safe arrival via UPS Ground.
