This is an update to the first write up for this transceiver which is now transmitting properly after going thru the set up procedure in the manual. The bias voltage had been set incorrectly, but everything seems to be OK now! This Drake TR-6 six meter receives and transmits with 100+ Watts out, The video shows it in CW mode, turning the xmtr on and off a couple times. I didn’t try it in SSB because I don’t have the proper microphone with the 0.21 plug that Drake used on most of their radios from that vintage. Pic 3 (counting the video) shows it with the calibrator on. The multi section filter cap has been replaced with a new one. This radio requires an AC-4 power supply and external speaker, not included. Cosmetically it’s VERY clean as you can see. The top cover is a repaint with a textured paint that doesn’t quite match the Drake “pebble” texture, but it’s close and looks very nice. Clean front panel and shiny chassis with minor wear. There may or may not be issues with this radio, but what I was able to check was OK. It may or may not work at all when you get it!

Available for sale is the rare Drake TR-6 transceiver. This radio came from the estate of a gentleman who was downsizing his massive collection of unique and hard-to-find ham radio equipment. This particular unit has the optional 9-NB Noise Blanker accessory and two open filter slots! Physically, the radio is in excellent condition for its age showing only minor wear. The cabinet shows minor signs of age-related wear but is still extraordinarily clean, as are the front panel and the knobs! The chassis is also a bit worn, but still shines quite nicely. We believe the photos will do a better job of conveying the quality of this unit, so please check them out below! It is a real collector’s piece indeed! Our technician tested the radio and found that it it runs beautifully! Here is what he had to say. Tested with RV-6, MS-4, dummy load, and RF generator. Ran on CW – full output. Unfortunately we do not have a microphone to test on SSB. Strong receive signals from RF generator. Sprayed the pots and switches with contact cleaner. The unit requires an external speaker and power supply (not included). IMPORTANT: This is a. Piece of equipment, and unless specifically noted above, it has not been fully restored with new components. It will inevitably need maintenance, however it’s impossible to know whether that will be next week or a few years down the road. Unless you are capable of doing this work yourself (or have access to someone who can), we suggest you revisit the idea of whether this is the right equipment for you.
