Kenwood TS-430S – HF All-Band Transceiver, Made in Japan. Introduced in 1983, the TS-430S was Kenwood’s first all solid-state HF transceiver and one of the most capable rigs of its era. It covers all amateur bands from 160 through 10 meters including the WARC bands (17m and 12m), with a general coverage receiver spanning 150 kHz to 30 MHz. Power requirement is DC 13.8V at 20A. Features include dual digital VFOs with 10 Hz readout, RIT, IF shift, tunable notch filter, noise blanker, speech processor, VOX, and memory channels. The TS-430S is a well-supported radio with an active community, abundant service documentation, and readily available parts. Made in Japan by Trio-Kenwood Corporation. A rainbow ribbon cable with a DB-25 connector is attached to the rear/top of the unit, consistent with a previous computer or TNC interface installation. This TS-430S is in pretty rough shape. The cabinet has quite a few scuffs on it. The good news is that the front panel looks good and the display is in good shape. The radio isn’t working properly. Both the RX and TX are intermittent. The display will occasionally flash, and when this happens the TX drops significantly. The radio has several filters installed including an Inrad filter. I then decided to leave it installed but couldn’t remember where the cables went, so it is still unplugged.
