This FT-890 has been used recently to make numerous contacts on 20 and 40 meters. I do not have antennas for other bands so I have not used it except on these frequencies. It receives well and I never got any bad audio reports with this radio and microphone. This radio does not have any special options or accessories. It is the basic FT-890. It has a built in speaker but needs a 12 volt DC power supply that can put out at least 25 amps. I used it with a 50 amp switching supply and it worked very well. This radio does not have the antenna tuner accessory so it would be good to have a decent tuner to get the best band coverage. I could not find my manual for this radio but maybe I never had one. It is a capable radio but simple enough to figure out without a manual. The manual is readily available though. Before I got a Yaesu FT-450D, I used this radio and a couple of FT-840 and I really prefer the FT-890 but this one is extra. While the FT-450D is a much more capable radio in terms of bells and whistles, the FT-890 is an excellent value radio, especially for a new General Class Ham. At some time before I got it, someone got something really hot close or in contact with the case and it partially melted or distorted the plastic case. It has not affected the functionality as far as I can tell though. Check out the online review and ratings for this radio. It is not the most modern HF multiband/multimode but it is a very capable and rugged transceiver. The item “Yaesu FT-890 HF Transceiver” is in sale since Tuesday, January 09, 2018.
