This is a relatively simple, reliable, rugged, small HF transceiver. It can be used as a desktop radio but is small and light enough for field or mobile use. It weighs just over 10 lbs and is 9.5″ X 3.7″ X 7. This is a spare radio for me that is operational (as of December 19). I THINK is was manufactured in 2002 and is in very good condition considering its age. These radios were built as early as 1993 and there are lots still in operation. So this is a later production version. This unit is standard in that it does not have the high stability TCXO or optional filters and no antenna tuner. It is a good basic radio though. I can supply a decent Yaesu hand mic (pictured) and the operator’s manual and a copy of the service manual too along with a good power cable. You just need a 13.8 VDC power supply and the antenna(s). One of the segments in the frequency display sometimes fades out making a little hard to read. There are lots of reviews and information on the online forums about the FT-840.
