I acquired this fine radio from another ham who bought it in non-working condition at a hamfest and found that repairs were beyond his capabilities. The radio had been the victim of a botched attempt to “open” it up to different frequency ranges, possibly CB and other. I have used this radio as my main rig for more than a year and a half since the restoration with absolutely no issues whatsoever. The repair however was a challenge and deserves full disclosure to potential buyers. It is summarized in the last photo. Essentially, the diode matrix that does multiple filter selections within the radio had been butchered with a high heat iron or soldering gun and was destroyed, including internal traces on the board. The repair consisted of building a partial replacement matrix, mounting that replacement with epoxy in the original location that was destroyed, and then restoring matrix operation with discrete wires to replace the destroyed PCB traces. It was a lot of work for research and construction but the result was spectacular. Better it goes to someone who will take advantage of all of its wonderful features. With its internal PC interface it is plug and play on digital modes using WSJT-X. Included are all that is shown in the photos: Main radio and control head, original interconnection cable, HM-154 microphone, and a fused power cord.
