This listing is for a Very Rare Swan Cubic Astro 200 HF Ham Transceiver PROJECT. This was one of Cubic’s last entries into the Ham radio arena. It was a very early synthesized rig with a true frequency counter display (not the indicator used on modern radios). It uses a unique tuning methos, slowm and fast up/down tuning toggles. Not my bag but close to what you get on SDR radios and computer controlled radios to some extent. This was indeed ahead of its time. It is solid state and very compact. I have been told that it was a pretty good radio. Cosmetically this radio is pretty good with many nicks but not a lot of corrosion, no extra holes, no cabinet dents. There are no major nicks. The paint color on the cabinet is nice. This is its known condition. 2 All voltages are present. 3 The digital display works and all segments are good. 4 All local oscillators are working – The synthesizer seems to work properly, ramps up and down in frequency when I operate the up and down levers. 5 There are no signals heard and no transmitter operation. 6 The transmitter is totally untested. The most troublesome items on this vintage piece are working, as said above! The reason I stopped working on this is that this is so rare that I do not want to spend my time becoming an expert on it. If you love this model, likely you can spend the time to track down its issue(s) and get it playing again. For me it is not a labor of love.. You get what you see, all covers, case top and bottom. You also get a readable copy of the Owner’s/Service manual. Opening price reflects the lowest I will take for it without parting it out, no reserve. NO OTHERS WILL BE RECEIVED. To be more clear, this transceiver won’t transmit (or receive) because the T/R switching does not work. Likely it is a logic problem, but the “logic” in this radio involves no complex CPU chips, just a few transistors. The issue is getting at them and finding them on the rather densely packed analog board. Likely the transmitter works but I was not able to test it for that reason. Therefore I did not want to claim that it does work. The radio shows no sign of major overvoltage or lightning strike damage. On the contrary, the fact that the digital functions work is good supporting evidence that it suffered only a failure in one of the switching circuits. This is likely the reason it won’t receive either. Sorry for any confusion. The item “Very Rare Swan Cubic Astro 200 HF Ham Transceiver PROJECT” is in sale since Tuesday, December 27, 2016.
