THIS IS THE MOST SOUGHT AFTER HAM RADIO BECAUSE IT WAS THE LATEST AND BEST MODEL OF THE KENWOOD TRIBANDERS! NOT ONLY THAT BUT IT HAS THE RAREST OF ALL 1.2GHZ SHF MICROWAVE BAND MODULE INSTALLED! THE RADIO IS IN OUTSTANDING CONDITION! THIS IS AN AWESOME ASSET TO OWN! YES YOU CAN REALLY MAKE TOTALLY FREE TELEPHONE CALLS ON THIS RIG! JUST THAT IN ITS SELF IS WORTH THE PRICE LET ALONE ALL THE OTHER DOZENS OF AMAZING FEATURES INCLUDING POLICE AND FIRE AND AIR CRAFT SCANNING AND LISTENING PLUS CROSS BAND REPEATER OPERATION ETC! IT IS AN AMAZING UNIT! With an amp on the 1.2 band you can literally cook your food with your own voice on the 1.2 Microwave band. 1.2GHZ is the most highly demanded because ham contesting folks point shoot their voice using small dish antennas or tiny beam antennas. Its a great band of contesting or running amateur television or data. These are quite rare. You see very few of them. THE NEW MODELS ALL SUCK ROCKS BECAUSE THEY ARE ALL DUEL BRANDERS AND WILL NOT ALLOW A THIRD BAND TO BE INSTALLED AS THIS RADIO DOES! SOME DO HF OF COARSE, BUT THEY DO NOT MAKE TRIPLE BAND FM RADIOS WITH THE CHANGEABLE 3RD BAND MODULE ANY MORE SORRY! FM IS THE CLEAREST SOUNDING AUDIO AVAILABLE ON THE MARKET! (THESE KENWOOD FM MOBILES ARE THE MOST PREFERRED MOBILES BY HAMS AND THEY DO NOT MAKE A SUBSTITUTE YOUR LOOKING AT THE ONE AND ONLY LEFT) These radios are very rare! I have here before you, the short version of the description which will be sufficient. If you wish, just read the short version, there is really no need to read all the details of what this radio is capable of doing in the long version. Short version: This is an excellent working tm742a kenwood ham radio TRIBANDER WITH 2 METER and 440mhz AND 1.2GHZ MICROWAVE SUPER HIGH FREQUENCY transceiver. So it is a police and FIRE AND sheriff scanner you can even listen to the Micdonalds folks take orders if you program in their frequency in your local city. The Sheriff use 150mhz up to 165mhz. You can get 24 hour weather on 162.400 mhz also. You can get local city police by scanning your 460mhz to about 470 mhz. The ambulance is also up there as well. It works great as you can clearly see on the lit and running display. Cosmetically this radio is about a 9 out of 10 there are almost no scratches at all especially, there are no noticeable scratches on the most important display face.. The radio works great. The radio sounds loud and clear on all bands as I have tested all of them talking to the locals. It works great and looks great! It also comes with the FREE TELEPHONE DIAL OUT mic that is in NEW condition! I tested it once. JUST LOOK AT THE COILS OF THE CORD! THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY TIGHT AND PERFECT JUST LIKE BRAND NEW! THIS MIC ALSO CONTROLS THE ENTIRE RIG! IT HAS SELECTOR BUTTONS ON THE FRONT ABOVE THE DIAL OUT KEY PAD AS WELL AS ON THE TOP AND IN THE BACK TOO! THE MIC IS THE BEST YOU CAN HAVE ON THIS RIG AND IT IS FACTORY ORIGINAL TOO! ITS AN OEM MIC! The radio is also a Police, fire weather and paramedic scanner too! You can even scan commercial airliner traffic to hear the air plains landing! Scan and listen to all your local towns activities. I even listen to the drive up window at taco bell with this unit! It can listen to many many public service conversations! Yes you can really make FREE telephone calls with this radio using the telephone DIAL OUT MIC! The owners manual you can get on line, I have the Japanese version if you want that book I will include it for free just ask. You can also play 3 arcade video games with this radio as well. One of them is space invaders and one is solitaire, I cant remember the other one but you can see them on the manual on line. All buttons on the face respond perfectly, its very very nice! Now I do know that the 742 WILL ALSO TALK ON THE POLICE frequencies because I have pressed the talk button on my other 742(not this one but on others) and that radio even transmitted over there. I even got a public service and police frequency book and programmed my other 742 radio to transmit on the input of our local police repeater and with the proper pl set on my other 742 rig, my scanner heard the police machine on the mountain come up when I squeezed the mic. AND IT IS EXTREMELY SIMPLE TO DO THIS! So even though this radio may have the capability to do these fancy things PLEASE don’t attempt to try the mod on this as it is not legal to talk out of the ham bands…… So yes this radio does defiantly have the capability to be used in any police car if you set it up to do so and will out perform the most advanced modern day government police radios by about 1000 to one! This radio will blow the best police radio clear out of the water, there is no comparison. This radio does all that and 1000 things more than the most advanced government radio equipment. Then I had to laugh because I know ours are 1000 times more powerful and cost a fraction of what they pay for their junk. Again PLEASE do not mess around with the transmit out side of the ham bands as it is not legal to talk out of the ham bands, you may lessen but you must not talk, please be a responsible adult when using this powerful rig……. We have had huge coverage repeaters shut down recently in our area due to improper use of these radios so it is important to use them correctly. Also some public service systems have also seen these same problems. Lots of systems now cover several states and go internationally as well so it is very very important to use this radio correctly. THIS IS BECAUSE CELL PHONES PUT OUT LESS THAN 1/4 OF A WATT AND REQUIRE A CELL SIGHT EVERY 5 MILES AND HAVE NO ANTENNA! THERE ARE NO CELL CITES UP IN MOST MOUNTAIN AREAS AND THEREFORE CELL PHONES HAVE A VERY LIMITED RANGE AND ARE NOT DEPENDABLE FOR THIS REASON. AFTER I EXPLAIN ALL THIS, THEN THEY JUST GO BACK TO PAYING THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS ON THERE CELL PHONES BECAUSE ITS TOO MUCH TROUBLE TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO TAKE A TEST. SAME OLD STORY THERE.
