This is the most sought after OF ALL THE HAM RADIO CONTESTING ASSETS! Its the preferred radio of choice for ham radio operators because it is used for microwave contesting. Ham radios operators use satellite dishes and tiny beams to pinpoint shoot their signal similar to a flashlight beam. With enough power you can literally cook your food from the radiation of the antenna while you talk on the radio. THE NEW MODELS ALL SUCK ROCKS BECAUSE THEY ARE ALL DUEL BRANDERS! Especially the 1.2GHZ microwave units because they are so rare! They don’t make anything for 1.2 Ghz any more so your lucky to find a radio that does this band. There are no 1.2GHZ radios for sale anywhere! If you can even find one used they are only single band units! You will never find a triple band like this from anyone but me. SOME DO HF OF COARSE, BUT THEY DO NOT MAKE TRIPLE BAND FM RADIOS WITH THE CHANGEABLE 3RD BAND MODULE ANY MORE SORRY! FM IS THE CLEAREST SOUNDING AUDIO AVAILABLE ON THE MARKET! (THESE KENWOOD FM MOBILES ARE THE MOST PREFERRED MOBILES BY HAMS AND THEY DO NOT MAKE A SUBSTITUTE YOUR LOOKING AT THE ONE AND ONLY LEFT) These radios are very rare! I have here before you, the short version of the description which will be sufficient. If you wish, just read the short version, there is really no need to read all the details of what this radio is capable of doing in the long version. Short version: This is an excellent working tm941a kenwood ham radio TRY TRIPLE BAND INSTALLED READY transceiver. It works great as you can clearly see on the lit and running display. Cosmetically this radio is about a 9 out of 10 there are almost no scratches at all especially, there are no noticeable scratches on the most important display face.. All the buttons are very tight and stay in even if you were to pull on them, they will not come out because the radio is in excellent condition! It is a 2 meter 440 mhz and 1.2GHZ meter triband/tripple band radio ready to go! The radio sounds loud and clear on all 3 bands as I have tested all of them talking to the locals. It works great and looks great! It also comes with the FREE TELEPHONE DIAL OUT mic that is in very nice CONDITION as you can see. JUST LOOK AT THE COILS OF THE CORD! THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY TIGHT AND PERFECT JUST LIKE BRAND NEW! The lettering on the mic is in great shape. THIS MIC ALSO CONTROLS THE ENTIRE RIG! IT HAS SELECTOR BUTTONS ON THE FRONT ABOVE THE DIAL OUT KEY PAD AS WELL AS ON THE TOP AND IN THE BACK TOO! THE MIC IS THE BEST YOU CAN HAVE ON THIS RIG AND IT IS FACTORY ORIGINAL TOO! ITS AN OEM MIC! The radio is also a Police, fire weather and paramedic scanner too! Scan and listen to all your local towns activities. I even listen to the drive up window at taco bell with this unit! It can listen to many many public service conversations! Yes you can really make FREE telephone calls with this radio using the telephone DIAL OUT MIC! There is no manual, you can view it on line for free. You can also play 3 arcade video games with this radio as well. One of them is space invaders and one is solitaire, I cant remember the other one but you can see them on the manual on line. All buttons on the face respond perfectly, i have not found any defects on this unit, its very very nice! You do not need to read the rest of this text below as it is mostly a just a story: Long version (unnecessary to read): Now for the long version about what this radio can do for you. If you dont know about the power and magic of ham radio you might want to read about it. If you think thats crazy, the last photo will BLOW YOUR MIND! Just wait till you see the last photo! Just a couple months ago! Are all you buyers out there crazy or what? This radio is nearly identical to that one. The only difference (correct me if mistaken) is the indention in the face, the location of a couple buttons to the far left of the channel selector and the vertical orientation of the signal strength meter. I can assure you all the band modules are identical and fully interchangeable with the 742A and this radio, I believe the owners manual is the same also or very similar. I even think the faces will interchange as well, so if you ask me I think kenwood kept these tri-banders pretty much identical. I would say choose your pick, tm-641, tm-642, tm741 and tm-742 are all the same radio. I think the main difference is the 2 band modules that came with these radios were switched. Some came with 2m and 220mhz or they would come with 2m and 440mhz and you would pick which two bands you wanted to start with depending on the model and you could add a third module later at your choice. I think this is the only difference which really is no difference at all since all modules are completely 100% interchangeable, there is no soldering involved they all simply unplug relatively easily. All the band modules that fit these radios listed above will be prefixed with “UT”. They are all the same. This I know for sure and you can check on line as well as this is public information. This is a kenwood Tri-Band Amateur radio. Radio will memorize frequencies , offsets, tones etc. Also does automatic offsets as frequencies are scanned. Picture is of actual unit. Includes telephone dial out microphone. The condition of this radio is OUTSTANDING! No scratches on the transparent part of the display face (this is the most important place to be scratch free) at all and no pealing or fading button lettering neither on the face. You simply need to just ask the locals on the radio for the codes. You can dial out if you have the codes to an autopatch repeater in your town by simply dialing the number on your telephone dtmf key pad that comes with this rig! Did you know most all repeaters now come on board with IRLP also? It is the new internet radio linking program. Simply tie in to any irlp repeater in your town, enter the proper command on the key pad that comes with this radio given by the repeater club and you are instantly connected with clear crisp digital audio to repeaters and other hams AROUND THE GLOBE IN SECONDS!! Yes the internet is not only for computers, it has now come full circle in to the ham radio community and IRLP repeaters are very common now. Say you want to talk to hams in Italy, just enter the command on your key pad and instantly you are connected to any Italian city repeater you choose with in seconds! What is even more cool, its all. Most all ham radio repeater clubs run strictly on donations only! Ham radio is AWESOME and so is this radio! THESE ARE THE 2 MOST WIDELY USED BANDS. HAVE THE MOST REPEATERS AVAILABLE OVER ALL OTHER BANDS. THERE ARE MORE REPEATERS IN THE U. A ON THESE 2 BANDS THAN ANY OTHER. IF YOU GET THE 220 OR 1.2 MODELS, ALL THOUGH THEY ARE NICE, THERE ARE VERY FEW REPEATERS IN THE U. A THAT USE THEM SO YOU WILL NOT HEAR MUCH ACTIVITY IF LISTENING TO THOSE OTHER BANDS. 2 METERS AND 440 ARE THE BEST FOR LISTENING TO HAM ACTIVITY AND ALSO POLICE, FIRE AND PUBLIC SERVICES. HOW DO I KNOW WHAT SERVICES THE FCC ALLOCATES FOR WHICH BANDS? WELL THAT ANSWER IS SIMPLE. WHEN I OBTAINED MY HAM RADIO LICENSE IT IS ONE OF THE QUESTIONS ASKED TO US ON THE “VE” (VOLUNTEER EXAMINERS TEST SESSION). HAMS ARE REQUIRED TO KNOW THIS TO PASS THEIR EXAM. Did you also know this is a police scanner as well. You can program this to scan, police, fire, 24hour weather stations, air craft and darn near any public service available can be scanned and listened to with this rig. Now I do know that the 741 WILL ALSO TALK ON THE POLICE frequencies because I have pressed the talk button on my other 741(not this one but on others) and that radio even transmitted over there. I even got a public service and police frequency book and programmed my other 741 radio to transmit on the input of our local police repeater and with the proper pl set on my other 741 rig, my scanner heard the police machine on the mountain come up when I squeezed the mic. AND IT IS EXTREMELY SIMPLE TO DO THIS! YOU SIMPLY SNIP THE LONG GREEN WIRE LOOPED IN THE FRONT AND THAT IS ALL YOU DO! So even though this radio may have the capability to do these fancy things PLEASE don’t attempt to try (SNIP THE WIRE) this as it is not legal to talk out of the ham bands…… So yes this radio does defiantly have the capability to be used in any police car if you set it up to do so and will out perform the most advanced modern day government police radios by about 1000 to one! This radio will blow the best police radio clear out of the water, there is no comparison. This radio does all that and 1000 things more than the most advanced government radio equipment. Then I had to laugh because I know ours are 1000 times more powerful and cost a fraction of what they pay for their junk. Again PLEASE do not mess around with the transmit out side of the ham bands as it is not legal to talk out of the ham bands, you may lessen but you must not talk, please be a responsible adult when using this powerful rig……. This is considered by hams to be the one of the best radios ever made. This is the radio of choice and puts all the new radios you find in stores to shame because it will do so much more than they will do! Most hams prefer to keep these because they are the really good ones! What I like about this radio is that you can cross band repeat with it, go in on one band and come out on another, so it acts like a repeater for a handy talkie radio. Its an awesome radio to say the least! I GUARANTEE THIS TO WORK PERFECTLY AND WILL LOOK OUTSTANDING COSMETICALLY AS WELL. THIS IS BECAUSE CELL PHONES PUT OUT LESS THAN 1/4 OF A WATT AND REQUIRE A CELL SIGHT EVERY 5 MILES AND HAVE NO ANTENNA! THERE ARE NO CELL CITES UP IN MOST MOUNTAIN AREAS AND THEREFORE CELL PHONES HAVE A VERY LIMITED RANGE AND ARE NOT DEPENDABLE FOR THIS REASON. AFTER I EXPLAIN ALL THIS, THEN THEY JUST GO BACK TO PAYING THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS ON THERE CELL PHONES BECAUSE ITS TOO MUCH TROUBLE TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO TAKE A TEST. SAME OLD STORY THERE.
